Cloud POS vs offline POS: which one is right for you?

Cloud systems give you live reports anywhere, offline systems keep billing when the internet drops. The best answer is often both.

Choosing a POS often starts with one question: should it run in the cloud or on a local computer?

Cloud POS

Pros: check sales from your phone, easy multi-branch reporting, automatic backups, no server to maintain. Cons: depends on a stable internet connection.

Offline (local) POS

Pros: keeps working during internet outages, fast on local hardware. Cons: reports are harder to access remotely, backups need discipline.

The hybrid approach

A hybrid POS bills locally and syncs to the cloud whenever a connection is available. Cashiers never stop working, and owners still get live dashboards from anywhere.

For most shops in Sri Lanka — where connections can be unpredictable — hybrid is the safest choice.
